Sebamed Baby Soap Review: Why We Used It for Our Newborn

Disclaimer: This post is based on our personal experience and is not medical advice. Please consult a healthcare professional for medical concerns.

When it came to choosing a soap for our newborn, we were very cautious. This post is not meant to compare multiple baby soaps or list ingredients in detail. It is simply an account of why we chose Sebamed baby soap, how we used it during the newborn phase, and what our experience was like over time.

I am writing this for parents who are trying to decide whether Sebamed is worth the higher price and whether it actually makes a difference in everyday use. 👉This is the Sebamed baby soap we used during the newborn phase

This is based entirely on our personal experience of using the soap at home, not on promotional claims or brand descriptions.

Sebamed baby soap is more expensive than most other baby soaps available in the market. That was obvious from the beginning. There were many cheaper options, many of them marketed aggressively and were even more widely available.

But my wife was very clear about one thing. She wanted us to use only Sebamed. She was quite insistent about it. As a paediatrician, she had seen enough cases where skin issues started with something as simple as the wrong soap.

At first, I did wonder whether this was necessary. Like most parents, I questioned whether the price was really justified. After all, soap is soap, or at least that is what we tend to think until something goes wrong.

Once we started using it, I did feel that the quality was different. This was our experience with this soap. The soap felt mild. It did not have a strong smell. It did not leave the skin feeling dry or tight after a bath. These are small things, but they matter when you are bathing a newborn almost every day.

We did try the liquid version of Sebamed as well. It was fine. There was nothing wrong with it. But it got over very quickly. Given the price, that became noticeable. It felt expensive for the amount being used, especially when you are bathing a child regularly.

Because of that, we eventually switched back to the bar soap. It lasted longer and felt more practical for everyday use.

We did not experiment too much, apart from trying a couple of other soaps. But they did not give the satisfaction that Sebamed did.

Over time, we noticed that our son did not have any major skin issues. No persistent dryness. No rashes that could be traced back to bathing. Of course, this does not mean the soap alone is responsible for everything. Skin health depends on many factors. But at the very least, we felt confident that the soap was not causing any harm. For other baby care products we trusted, see our Sebamed shampoo and Sebamed baby cream reviews.

Looking back, I do not regret not experimenting with more soaps. When it comes to newborn skin care, avoiding problems is more important. Once you are dealing with irritation or rashes, the effort and anxiety involved is extremely great.

This does not mean Sebamed is the only option out there, or that everyone must use it. Every child is different. Every family has its own constraints. I am only sharing what worked for us.
